The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not representing an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

Bishop’s University is seeking a Communications Manager of Athletics and Recreation for a regular full-time position. Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing the Athletics and Recreation Department’s communication and marketing strategies. They will act as the brand guardian across all units of the department and be responsible for creative and innovative strategies and programs that will increase the visibility and awareness of Bishop’s University Athletics & Recreation Department. This position has a work week of 35 hours which requires a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
Nature of Duties & Responsibilities

Oversee the overall media relations sphere for the department;
Lead a team of Coordinators and student interns;
Develop and implement the departmental branding plan, in line with the University’s mission and strategic orientation;
Responsible for the development and execution of the department’s communications plan;
Oversee the development of marketing and promotional strategies for all parts of the department including, Athletics, Recreation, Sports Medicine, Boutique, Golf & Ski and Sports Centre/Facility.
Provide guidance and oversee communications, ensuring that messages and contents, for all units of the Athletics and Recreation department, are consistent with the departmental brand and mission;
Manage the Gaiters website;
Lead the department’s social media strategy and oversee content for a variety of media and accounts;
Support and assist the Director of Athletics and Recreation with department programming and special event management (Gaiter Classic, Wall of Distinction, Homecoming, etc.);
Manage the corporate sponsorship plan for all units and maintain strong partnerships to ensure continued growth;
Supervise aspects of varsity away and home game-days (preparation, promotion, programming, protocols, statistics, ticketing, press releases, speeches, etc.);
Oversite of the Community Programming and support for the Gaiters Boutique;
Liaise and collaborates with internal stakeholders (Principal’s Office, DSA Office) to provide expert commentary in support to press conferences, board of governors, and other events in relation to the department of Athletics and Recreation.
Build relationship with Sports Studies and other departments on campus;
Other tasks as assigned.

Exigences et conditions

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, in a sports related field is an asset;
Over 5 years of related experience working in an Athletics department, in a University setting is an asset;
Excellent management skills and the ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of people including: student athletes, coaches, community, alumni, etc.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills;
Excellent oral & written communications skills in both English and French;
Fluency in English and French;
Demonstrated strategic thinking and team player;
Strong marketing, networking and sponsorship skillset;
Experience managing media requests and producing media related documents;
Strong digital media awareness, including being able to design and manipulate web pages;
Extensive knowledge of all social media platforms;
In-depth knowledge of the varsity sport programs offered at Bishop’s;
Excellent knowledge and experience of the Canadian University Sport Leagues and Programming. Familiarity with RSEQ and U Sports and asset;
Experience with University sporting event management systems, including web casting;
Experience in the athletic apparel industry is an asset;
Experience in the golf industry is an asset;
Capacity to manage tight deadlines;
Available for a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends;
Some travel will be required.

Salary Range: M10 ($55,291.60 to $72,163.00)
